Communities In
Schools, Inc., the nation's largest
dropout prevention organization,
announced today that it has received a
four-star rating from Charity Navigator
-- the leading nonprofit analysts -- for
sound fiscal management. This
distinction is awarded to only a quarter
of the organizations Charity Navigator
evaluates. The rating was given to
Communities In Schools for its ability
to "efficiently manage and grow its
finances."
With a continued movement toward
increased accountability in the
nonprofit sector, donors are
demanding that organizations
show unprecedented transparency
and quantifiable results to
justify their contributions.
Communities In Schools works in
partnership with 16,000
organizations to leverage
community resources. And 49,000
volunteers allow CIS staff to
provide more students with an
increased level of service. In
total, 94 percent of CIS's labor
force is non-paid volunteers.
Profiled in the New York Times,
NPR, and The Chronicle of
Philanthropy, Charity Navigator
uses data-driven analysis to
evaluate ten times more
charities than their
competitors. Data shows that its
users give more than they
planned to before viewing its
findings. Last year, Charity
Navigator users gave over $3
billion in charitable gifts.
