"San Antonio - A Dropout Factory?" - Not on our watch!!! In April, 2009, it was decided that we could alter that unacceptable prediction by joining forces as Friends of Communities In Schools of San Antonio! (CIS-SA) The Friends' mission is to contribute to the health and well-being of the youth of San Antonio by supporting CIS-SA's efforts to help at-risk young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. We are not a fund-raising organization; our goals are to increase awareness of Communities In Schools of San Antonio and to engage volunteers who wish to contribute their time and talents. If you aren't a member, please join Friends of Communities In Schools of San Antonio! An annual membership is $25.00 per family and is tax deductible. You will be invited to Friends events and have opportunities to learn about the important work that Communities In Schools of San Antonio does to keep at-risk youth in school so that they will become productive members of our city. To join, click the Donate Now button on the right side of this page and follow the prompts. In the "purpose" section, fill in Friends. If you would like to volunteer for Communities In Schools of San Antonio, follow the Get Involved link. Together, we can make a difference.
News The Friends Steering Committee met with 130 case managers and staff during the CIS-SA annual 3 day Staff Development at the UTSA dowtown campus on August 12th. We had an opportunity to meet in small groups and answer questions regarding our Friends' mission and 1st year accomplishments. We heard many ideas and suggestions that will enable us to better prioritize our projects and goals for our 2nd year. Visit this page often as we post specific opportunities for members to get involved during the coming year. Nothing can be more rewarding than helping a child and letting them know that you care! |
